It turns out I’ve been held hostage for most of each week at a high profile restaurant and bar based in the city centre, where my skills have been honed, experience thrust upon me, brain taxed and social skills stretched to the limit. I’ve managed to stick there for 6 years and learnt a lot through their success. I select and devise a large wine list for them. I’m now taking on further clients in addition to that work base, hopefully some of the successes & achievements we’ve seen there will work for your business too. Before that I worked for a national company, as part of a team that handled a client base including Tiger Tiger, Baa Bar, San Carlo, Las Iguanas, Arc Inspirations group (Leeds of all places!) and the Hydes managed estate.
Many and varied places visited, I also had a few private sole trader clients which I brought to the group within that time.
That job came about as, with changing ways of retailing not being to my liking, I left a director’s position in a quite well known record retail business based first on Oldham St and later Thomas St. I started that business with my brother in 1999 and had some amazing times selling those round black things to some very interesting people, djing around and about Manchester, ligging it around the clubs and attending the opening of any letters we saw. We grew the business with new partners, had a live and syndicated radio show and
even a small record label. And I left that? Well, the getting out and about and the love of music’s continued, I simply escaped mailing out records as a career in time and returned to my profession as a living.
Before that wild career break I was stocktaker, man and boy, member of the Institute of Licensed Trade Stock Auditors and I like to think, offering a pretty useful service to my clients in Manchester and the North West through the social upheaval and changes of the Thatcher era to the heady days glimpsed by the then revived hospitality trade in the late 90s.
